Welcome to Beau Hajavitch's Osborne Village Inn Zoo Archives site.
This site mainly contains one picture each of a variety of rock bands that Beau Hajavitch has photographed at former Osborne Village Inn bars The Zoo and Ozzy's Lounge over the years along with biographical information on each band. All photos were taken at The Zoo unless otherwise stated that they were taken at Ozzy's.
Band names' links are below; click on each band to see Beau's picture and the band's info.
Over the years, this site has progressed to include other various aspects of these bars, including their infamous closing at the end of 2015. Links to those pages are below, too.
The Zoo was the famous rock bar at the Osborne Village Inn in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Before the inn's closing, The Zoo was considered as one of the legendary music venues in Canada, having been in operation since 1962. The Zoo's "little brother" was Ozzy's Lounge, located in the basement of the Osborne Village Inn. The Osborne Village Inn, as well as whatever type of renovated place is going to replace it (this updating of this page was written in January 2016 before anyone knows what is happening and before any renovations begin), is located at 160 Osborne Street, in the heart of Winnipeg's hip and trendy Osborne Village district. The link to their My Space page is at the bottom of this page. (No regular website - keep reading.)
This site had a strange way of coming into being. In fact, it wasn't supposed to even be a website at all.
Here's the story: Former Osborne Village Inn co-proprietor (before his passing in 2011) Chuck Green asked Beau, who he previously knew when Beau shot bands at The Zoo for his former TV show Hard Rock Heroes, if he could e-mail Chuck all his photographs of bands playing at The Zoo for Chuck to include on his website for the Osborne Village Inn, The Zoo, and Ozzy's. It took a while for Beau to locate all the photos, scan them, and e-mail them, but he did. Then Beau waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, Chuck told Beau he was getting a new webmaster.
Chuck found a new webmaster, who turned out to be a friend/acquaintance of Beau's. Beau was overjoyed and went out and took a new batch of photos. But this new webmaster didn't want to put Beau's photos on The Zoo's website, either, due to money issues. He said, "Why don't you do a page on each band, with the band's photo, and I'll link your page to the band's name on The Zoo's website?"
And that's how this website started to come to be.
But by the time Beau located the information on these bands to write them all up, and made the pages for each band, Beau's friend had stopped being The Zoo's webmaster and Chuck had found another webmaster. Beau attempted to explain everything to the new webmaster, but before anything could happen, Chuck decided to let the Osborne Village Biz have the Osborne Village Inn's perennially misleading web URL of osbornevillage.com. There would be no new home to replace that URL for the Osborne Village Inn website and the web presence of the Osborne Village Inn, The Zoo, and Ozzy's would now be exculsively found at their My Space page. Therefore, Beau decided he would flesh out this title page and maintain the original pages he created as an independent website. And THAT'S what you are reading now!
Voila, the Zoo Archives website!
So enjoy these pages, and relive the memories of The Zoo and Ozzy's. If you have an old picture of a band taken at The Zoo that you would like included (with your credit, of course), e-mail Beau Hajavitch at the link below the list of band links.
