This picture of Robin Black was taken sometime around 2000 or 2001. At that time the band was known as Robin Black And The Intergalactic Rock Stars.
Band members at the time included:
Robin Black is originally from Pinawa, MB, and in the early '90s he moved to Winnipeg to form glam band Ballroom Zombies with two Garinger brothers and Mark Sawatsky.
That band became legendary and notorius for their over-the-top live shows, but Robin wanted to make the act even glammier and the rest of the band didn't, so in December 1997 he and the band parted ways amicably. (The rest of the band replaced him with a third Garinger brother and renamed themselves The Harlots.) Robin moved to Toronto and formed the wonderfully arrogant Robin Black And The Intergalactic Rock Stars.
Robin and the IRS eventually signed a record contract and put out two albums, Planet: Fame and Instant Classic. Instant Classic was produced by the team of Bob Ezrin and GGGarth Richardson. They had several videos from those albums aired on Muchmusic.
Along the way, Killer Ky moved to lead guitar as a result of two personnel changes: Stacey Straye left the band and their new bassist would be John "The Creep" Kerns. On drums, Kevin Taylor left and was replaced by Chris Kidd.
In 2006, Robin even found the time to be one of the judges on Muchmusic's VJ Search reality show.
In Robin's own words from his press release: "Robin Black are everything the typical rock band should be from the looks to the attitude! The band is always in your face and practices religiously to ensure that their fans and even their skeptics always get the best performance they can possibly see. This is a band that leaves a stamp on people, they spread the disease of their stardom like a rampant STD spreads on a college campus. As much as you try to avoid it, you'll probably get infected." Can't say much more than that.
